I am a copyeditor and proofreader with more than fifteen years of experience. Prior to starting my own business, I was a copyeditor or senior production editor at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers; Weekly Reader, which published educational magazines for children; and the Philadelphia Inquirer. I am a member of the Advisory Council of Conscious Style Guide and a former member of the Board of Directors of ACES: The Society for Editing.

Among the books I’ve copyedited are three Caldecott Medal winners, two National Book Award finalists, a Newbery Honor Book, a Printz Honor Book, a Sibert Honor Book, a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book, four Drue Heinz Literature Prize winners, and numerous New York Times bestsellers. I feel incredibly lucky that my job is to help authors make sure their books are free of errors. When I was young, I devoured books. My mother likes to tell the story about how I used to carry around a book I’d memorized before I learned to read and proceed to “read” it aloud, sometimes while holding the book upside down. (The first line was: “Hop, hop, hop,” went Bill.) When I was older, my mother would drop me off at the public library on Saturdays with my library card and a quarter to call her for a ride when I was ready to go home, after hours of browsing the stacks and new releases. I never lost my love for reading. When I lived in New York City, a riveting book or two might have made me miss a few subway stops!

Now I specialize in copyediting and proofreading children’s and young adult fiction and nonfiction books, but I have also worked on fiction and nonfiction titles for adults. My clients include book publishers such as Hachette Book Group, Macmillan, Penguin Random House, Bloomsbury, and Bala Kids, as well as independent authors and clients.
